# Thermal processing and color

Temperature, exposure time, equipment and previous processing all matter when choosing a heating step. These study examples help you evaluate appearance alongside the requirements of your printed device.

## Appearance after exposure at 150 °C

The six exposure times below span 1–30 minutes.

Photographic details from an unprinted NanoPaper development study at four nominal temperatures and six durations. Lighting, shadows and your display affect appearance. Use the current TDS for processing guidance.

## From an exposure to a process

A printed device may experience several heating steps. Consider the complete sequence: the same peak setting does not always mean the same exposure.

### Temperature + time

Record the setting and the exposure duration together. A brief heating step and an extended hold can produce different results.

### Equipment + support

Record how heat reaches the sheet, including the oven, platen or roller, and how the sheet is supported.

### The complete sequence

Keep drying, curing, lamination and assembly steps in one process record. Inspect the construction after the full sequence.

## Compare another temperature.

Each temperature uses the same six exposure times.

## Evaluated processing examples

### Silver-ink processing

150 °C · 30 minutes

[Open the current TDS →](https://docs.nanopaper.io/material/tds/?hsLang=en)

### Copper-ink roller processing

200 °C · six passes

Approximately 30 seconds of estimated cumulative residence in the laminator’s heating zone, using the original motor. The temperature is the roller setting.

[Follow the RFID demonstration →](https://docs.nanopaper.io/blog/copper-rfid-prototype-on-nanopaper?hsLang=en)

Use the ink and equipment instructions together with the current TDS. A machine setting and a measured sheet temperature describe different quantities; record each when available.

## Evaluate appearance, geometry and function

### Appearance

Keep an unprocessed reference coupon and compare color under consistent lighting. If the substrate remains visible, define the finish your application needs.

### Geometry and handling

Check flatness, registration and handling after processing and conditioning.

### Printed performance

Measure continuity, resistance, adhesion or device response using the acceptance criteria for your application.
